Power BI 2.2 - Release notes

There are currently two templates one that works for versions 2017.2 and later and one that works for versions 2019 and later. The reason for this is that we wanted to have version of the template for the 2017.2 versions that is in use all over the world, but we also wanted to be able to add new fields and tables for the current and coming versions.

The following release notes apply to both versions except for the last section that lists changes between the two templates. There were four major updates to the templates:

  • Item Overview dashboard has been added.
  • Sales can now be classified as returns.
  • Model relationships for the different fact tables can now be viewed separately.

Following is a more detailed description of what changes were made to the model and reports in the templates.

Model

  • ‘Is return sale’ field has now been added to the Sales table.
  • Tabs for the different fact tables and dimension tables connected to them have been added to the model view.
    • This does not change anything but makes it easier to see the different relationships from the dimensions to the fact tables. This is needed because our model contains several different fact tables such as Sales, Inventory, Transfers, Customer orders, Stock movement and Tenders.

Reports

  • Is return sale slicer has been added to the Receipt report
  • Line number was added to Receipt lines report
  • Item Oveview – Dashboard added
    • This report shows KPIs for an individual item and should only be used to view the status of invidual items using drill through.
    • Drill through added to Item Overview on Item ID so all reports that have Item ID can drill to the Item Overview.

Changes only for version 2019 and later

In addition to the changes regarding return transactions and the Item overview dashboard the following changes were made to the 2019 template. The fields used for these new reports were not available in version 2017.2

Model

  • New Promotion table created
    • This table is based on data from Periodic discount and promotion table, but we create a new table that contains only promotion data. This is done so we can create the correct relationship to the Sales table for promotions.
  • Relationship was created between Sales (Price change ID) and Promotion (Offer ID)
  • Relationship was created between Sales (Discount offer ID) and Periodic Discount and Promotions (Offer ID)

Reports

  • Periodic discount sales report page added. Here you can view sales for items sold with a specific periodic discount.
  • Promotion sales report page added. Here you can view sales for items sold with specific promotion price.
